achieve balance
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a 5000 year old healing art. It is a conservative method of health care that has withstood the test of time. Acupuncture uses needles, carefully inserted into specific points to encourage the body to strengthen from within. This allows the body to combat disease and discomfort using the natural repair mechanisms of your body.
Are there any side effects?
There are virtually no side effects. A common response to treatment is a deeper, more refreshing sleep. Also of note, pregnant women must be treated with care as there are certain points that may bring on labour.
What conditions can acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture can treat so many conditions because of the focus of the acupuncturist on returning harmony or balance to the body.
Acupuncture is often successful with conditions that prove difficult for Western Medicine to treat successfully. Headaches, arthritis, sinusitis, asthma, chronic diarrhea, depression, insomnia, memory loss, PMS and addictions are some conditions that respond well to acupuncture. Any benefit seen by the patient is without side effects, and without the use of drugs or surgery.
How does acupuncture work?
Oriental medicine is based on the premise that energy, or “chi”, circulates throughout the body in pathways, or channels. When there is balance, the energy flows smoothly and there is vibrant health. When the body is imbalanced, blockages arise and manifest themselves along the channels. Blocked points create illness. Acupuncture needles are placed in such a way as to free up the blockages, allowing a smooth flow of energy. In this way, health and balance are restored to the whole body.
We use only single-use sterile disposable needles at this clinic.
Will it hurt?
People are very surprised at how little discomfort the insertion of the needle creates. It may feel like a mosquito bite as the needle is being inserted, this sensation usually diminishes completely after a few seconds. Most people find the treatment very relaxing, and it is not uncommon for people to fall asleep during a treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed will depend on each person and each condition. An acute minor injury may require a few treatments. Whereas a person with long-standing severe problems may require many treatments. Treatment sessions last between fifteen and thirty minutes.
