Reflexology Saskatoon
Reflexology is the study and practice of working reflexes in the feet, hands and ears that correspond to other parts of the body. Reflexology is based on the premise that zones and reflexes on certain parts of the body correspond to all muscles, glands and organs of the entire body. Stimulation of these areas assists the body to biologically correct, strengthen and reinforce itself.
Reflexology causes responses (relaxation) in corresponding parts of the body. Relaxation is the first step to the body’s return to a state of equilibrium, or homeostasis, in which circulation can flow unimpeded to supply nutrients and oxygen to the cells. With the restoration of homeostasis, the body’s organs and muscles, which are actually aggregations of cells, may then return to a normal state of function as well.
Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, placing the body in a parasympathetic healing state, enabling the disharmonies to be released by a physiological change in the body. With stress removed and circulation improved, the body is allowed to return to a state of homeostasis.
Experience the Benefits of Reflexology
There are many reasons that people seek out reflexology at Central Avenue Health Centre. The health benefits you may notice include:
- Improved circulation
- Relaxation with the removal of stress
- Assist the body to normalize metabolism naturally
- Help increase nerve function and reactivity
- Complements all other healing arts
- Improved Digestion
- Heightened sense of energy
- Pain release
Unlike other therapies which manipulate bones or muscle tissues, Reflexology can provide much needed relief, without having to directly work the specific stressed area of the body. When reflexes are stimulated, the body’s natural electrical energy works with the nervous system along the longitudinal or vertical zones to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones.
After any illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of “imbalance” and vital body systems can be blocked, preventing the body from maintaining optimal functioning. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body’s natural balance, as well as facilitate healing. The application and effect of the therapy on each person is unique. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances and by working on these points, the Reflexology Therapist can release these blockages.

What Happens in a Reflexology Session?
In a reflexology session, most of the time is spent on the foot. When the session is longer than one hour, the hands can also be incorporated. The client will be lying down during the full session. During the session, reflex points will be pressed and worked on. For areas of the body that are not in balance or not feeling optimal, those points that relate to them will be worked more to help break up the stress and promote healing.
If it is your first session, our reflexologist will go over your health history, which ensures that the therapist understands your needs and concerns and is aware of any underlying health conditions you may have. Stress removal is the first priority; followed by improved circulation and then attention paid to reflexes relative to body needs.
On another note, points in the foot are not used to diagnose any medical condition in the related body area, but working on them does help.
What does Reflexology feel like?
Reflexology feels different to each person. Generally, clients feel relaxed and sometimes even fall asleep during a treatment. Other normal reactions to reflexology include increased sweating, light-headedness, increased emotions, thirst and exhaustion. When sensitive reflex points are activated, it may feel like a bruise, comforting pressure, and warmth in the corresponding area of the body. In some spots, it feels like a bunch of little crystals getting broken up. This is a sign that the area needs to be worked on.
Who should get Reflexology?
Reflexology may be performed on everyone, from the newborn to the aged. It can be used for a general “tune-up” or in a very sick body. It can be used throughout pregnancy care, or pre-surgically and post-surgically. Reflexology is very popular for those that spend most of their time standing or on their feet. Sometimes it is just the feet that need help, but with reflexology, it positively affects the whole body.
